Patrick Star and Sponge Bob attending the Cook-Off

Sherry's story after reading "Eleven" Patrick Star, who lives underneath the sea looks like a star. His friend Sponge Bob looks like a cube sugar. One day, Patrick Star saw a poster for the Underwater World Innovative Cook-Off on the next Saturday. Patrick told this news to his best friend Bob and they decided to take part in the cooking contest. On that day, according to the rules, each group should elect a leader, buy food materials, cook dishes, and place dishes beautifully. All of those procedures should be finished in three hours. The match was beginning. Firstly, Patrick and Bob must decide who to be the leader. Bob thought that definitely he would be the leader because he was a professional chef , while Patrick also wanted to be the leader because he thought he was more creative. They could not decide for a long nonsense discussion, so they decided to choose their group leader on the toss of a coin. The outcome was Patrick to be the leader! (Congratulations!) You...

Case Brief: Cox Communications, Inc. In re Louis Fleet v. United States Consumer Council United States District Court, Eastern District of Pennsylvania, 1989. 95 B.R. 319.

What is my article about? My article is a case brief. This case called Fleet versus U.S. Consumer Council (USCC) was decided by the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania in 1989. This case reflects how courts apply the unconscionability doctrine today in the U.S. In Fleet case, the defendant USCC represented that it could provide help to the consumers facing the loss of their homes through foreclosure. USCC then charged consumers $195.00 to $260.00 simply for referring them to an attorney. However, such a referral could be obtained for free through a bar association lawyer referral service. So Fleet brought this consumer class action against USCC. The central issue is that did USCC’s practice violate New Jersey law prohibiting unfair and deceptive acts and practices, which is based on the answer to the question of whether USCC’s practice is unconscionable. The court held that USCC’s practice was unconscionable and in violation of NJ UDAP. Why did I choos...

Washington city helps residents, merchants with wooden money

Washington city helps residents, merchants with wooden money The salad dressing, butter, turkey, dog food and toothbrush totaled $24.97. Laurie Mahlenbrei handed the cashier a slice of wood marked $25, and walked out with her groceries. The wooden currency only works in the small city of Tenino, Washington . It is part of an effort to help Tenino residents and local merchants get through the economic fallout of the COVID-19 pandemic. The city created a similar program in the 1930s during the Great Depression. Now, it has brought back the idea. Using money the city set aside for emergencies, the city is giving people in need up to $300 per month in wooden currency to spend. Just about every business in town is accepting the wooden currency, including restaurants and gas stations . The currency is made of maple wood and is about the thickness and size of an index card. It is printed on the same 1890s-era press that once printed the Depression currency and the local newspaper. ...

Remote Learning

[Article] Title: Universal Remote Learning for Beginning of 2020-21 School Year Fulton County Schools today announced that it will begin the 2020-2021 school year using the Universal Remote Learning model. The first day of instruction continues to be August 17. “The data and information from our health partners is overwhelming. This virus is spreading and not slowing down,” said Superintendent Mike Looney. “I was hopeful the direction would change, but it is clear that we must pivot from the Face-to-Face model to the Universal Remote Learning model in order to keep our students, their families, and our staff members safe.” In May, Superintendent Looney announced three models the district was developing while monitoring the spread of COVID-19: (1) Face-to-Face instruction with enhanced cleaning and social distancing protocols; (2) Universal Remote Learning; and (3) Blended Learning using a combination of remote and in-person instruction. In June, he announced the district ...

I-KI-RU

Title: To live (“I-KI-RU” in Japanese) Poet: Shuntaro Tanikawa (1931- ) Tanikawa is one of Japan’s famous poets. He wrote this poem in the late 1960s. In Japan in the 1960s, many young people got excited into the protest about some political issues, for instance, the protest against the revision of the treaty (called “the U.S.-Japan Security treaty”). Also, some young people enthused about the protest against the Japanese government which declared for the U.S. government carrying on the Vietnam War. In my opinion, it seems to me that Tanikawa sympathized with the young and tried to express the dignity and meaning of life by writing this poem* . In this poem, he repeats metaphors about casual behavior, feelings, and scenes in daily life, so that evokes readers into awareness of the dignity or meaning. For instance, in the first stanza, Tanikawa writes, “To live, to be alive; / Is when you get thirsty / It’s when the sun’s rays filter through the treetops / ...

YOUTH

The poem I have read is named “YOUTH” form Samuel Ullman. Samuel Ullman (April 13, 1840 – March 21, 1924) was an American businessman, poet, humanitarian, and religious leader. He is best known today for his poem "Youth," which was a favorite of General Douglas MacArthur. The poem was on the wall of MacArthur's office in Tokyo when he became Supreme Allied Commander in Japan. Author background source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Samuel_Ullman The poem makes me feel positively. It was wrote when the author was 77 years old. I admire him very much, because I couldn’t imagine I can have the thought as him when I  live to be seventy-seven. Some people now especially in young generations  seem to feel that they are getting old easily and feeling tired increasingly after work. Live in this world is not easy, there are many pressures we have to absorb, many responsibility we have to do and  many rules we have to observe. Maybe those are reasons why some people think...

The Midautumn Festival

The Midautumn Festival Tune: “Prelude to Water Melody” Su Shi, translated by Xu Yuanchong How long will the full moon appear?  Wine cup in hand, I ask the sky. I do not know what time of the year ’It would be tonight in the palace on high. Riding the wind, there I would fly, Yet I’m afraid the crystalline palace would be  Too high and cold for me. Dancing to my shadow Is analogous to our human world? The moon goes round the mansions red  Through gauze-draped window soft to shed  Her light upon the sleepless bed. Why then when people part, is the oft full and bright? Men have sorrow and joy; they part or meet again;  The moon is bright or dim and she may wax or wane.  There has been nothing perfect since the olden days.  So let us wish that man  Will live long as he can!  Though miles apart, we’ll share the beauty she displays.
